Rohnert Park was established in 1962, and is one of the country's first planned communities. Each neighborhood is designed around a park and an elementary school.
City services and infrastructure have been carefully considered to provide optimum benefits, minimal environmental impact and maximum self-sufficiency. The city maintains two municipal swimming pools and an 18-hole golf course in addition to the typical city-held ventures. It has become one of California's largest designed landscaped cities.
Located between Petaluma and Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park's focus on family and community is abundantly apparent in the many citywide activities for children and teens. Technology High School, part of Rohnert Park's award-winning school district, is located on the Sonoma State University campus.
Volunteerism is strong in Rohnert Park as evidenced by the vibrant programs available to its residents. According to the Chamber of Commerce, Rohnert Park embraces the African proverb, "It takes a village," to provide the best for the children of their community.
